The Centre of Polymers and Composites (CPC) at Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG), University of Warwick is a leading centre in the field of plastics and composites.

Their holistic approach integrates materials, manufacturing, design, and end-of-life solutions to drive advancements in the industry. With a rich history of innovation and technology transfer in plastics and composite processing, they have collaborated with numerous organizations, including large corporations and SMEs. From raw material suppliers to manufacturers and end users, they have developed and implemented sustainable plastic solutions across diverse sectors, including the development of new high-volume manufacturing technologies for automotive thermoset and thermoplastic composites.

Their research encompasses a wide range of topics in the field of plastics, composites, and elastomers. From process and structural simulation to materials formulation and industrially relevant processing methods like injection moulding, compression moulding, and extrusion, they conduct research across all stages and scales including fundamental characterization up to full-scale industrial manufacturing and test studies, ensuring the validity of simulations and demonstrating industrial feasibility.

University of Manchester

The Sustainable Materials Innovation (SMI) Hub at the University of Manchester supports innovation in sustainable plastics and multi-materials, with a particular emphasis on tackling industrially relevant research questions. The team is necessarily interdisciplinary, with polymer chemists and engineers working with economists, social scientists, machine learners, and life-cycle assessment experts to co-create robust solutions to managing plastic from creation to end-of-life.

They take a systems level approach to exploring and assessing sustainable solutions, ensuring interventions are socially, economically and environmentally sustainable. They fight against greenwashing, care about metrology and quality standards, strive for a safe, diverse and equitable laboratory environment, and build international research partnerships to learn from other leaders in plastics recycling and circularity.
